About Us

16 about founders-2In 1962, after attending Stockbridge School of Agriculture and receiving a degree in Horticulture, John Bordenuk founded the business, with the help of his wife Joan, on the property of the Bordenuk family home set on ten acres of land in the Sixteen Acres section of Springfield.

John’s parents, John and Nancy Bordenuk, had farmed the land and had a roadside stand where they sold the produce and cut flowers specializing in gladiolas. John’s studies and a longstanding family tradition of gardening were to become the inspiration for Sixteen Acres Garden Center, Inc.
