Mulled Wine & Cider


Combine all ingredients in a large saucepan, bring to just boiling then simmer gently over low heat for 10 minutes – vigorous boiling will cause the alcohol to evaporate. Pour into mugs and enjoy.
Ratio of wine and cider can be adjusted to taste or use only cider and a bit less honey for a non-alcoholic version.


  • 1 (750-ml) bottle red wine, such as Cabernet Sauvignon
  • 4 cups apple cider
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 4 whole cloves
  • 3 star anise
  • Juice and zest of 1 orange
